Assigning status labels

GoLive comes with the default color-coded file status labels "Essential," "Hot," "In Progress," "Cool," "Personal," "Project 1," and "Project 2." (The same default labels appear in the Mac OS Finder.) Color-coded files appear in navigation view and links view when the display of the views is set to thumbnails, frames, or ovals. (See Changing the display of the view.) In Windows, you can delete, rename, or recolor any of these labels. In either Windows or Mac OS, you can add a new label. You can assign any one status to any file.

Note: GoLive also uses the term "status" to indicate the state of links and references at a site--for example, in the Status column of the Files tab in the site window. (See Fixing site errors.) Be careful not to confuse these two types of file status.

Sometimes individual files have more than one status--for example, both "In Progress" and "Personal." If you need multiple labels for your files, use collection labels instead of status labels.

To add or edit a file status:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • To add (Windows or Mac OS) or edit (Windows only) a status for all sites, choose Edit > Preferences, expand Site in the left pane, and then click Status in the left pane.

Note: If you want the status in the Preferences dialog box to apply to an existing site, open the site and make sure the Site Specific Settings is deselected in the Site Settings dialog box.

  2. Do one of the following:
    • To add a new label, click the Create New Item button New button . A new white label appears with the name "New Status" in the bottom of the Site Settings dialog box.
