Opening items automatically at startup
You can have a file, such as a frequently used program, open automatically whenever you turn on your computer. To have a file open automatically when you turn on your computer, drag the item or its alias into the Startup Items folder (inside the System Folder).
Tip: If an item in the Startup Items folder is causing problems, you can prevent the item from starting up automatically by turning off system extensions (by holding down the Shift key) when you start up. After you remove the item from the Startup Items folder, you can restart normally to turn extensions back on. Related topic
