Opening files

These shortcuts work in Open dialog boxes. A plus sign (+) means keys are held down together.

  Press these keys   To do this    
Select the item above or below the selected item.

Letter keys
Select an item in the active list whose name begins with the letters typed.

Move to the top of the scrolling list.

Move to the bottom of the scrolling list.

Scroll the list up one screen.

Scroll the list down one screen.

Move up one level in the file hierarchy.

Change current location to the desktop.

+ or

Open the selected folder or volume.

+ or

+ Open alias

Select the original of an alias.

 or
Click the Open button.

 or
Close the dialog box.

Select all files that can be opened (if the Edit menu is active).

Expand the selected folder or volume.

Collapse the selected folder or volume.

Display the next location in a historical sequence (similar to the "Forward" command in Web browsers).

Display the previous location in a historical sequence (similar to the "Back" command in Web browsers).
