Clipping files

A clipping is a file your computer creates automatically when you drag text, a picture, a movie, or a sound from a document to the desktop, a folder, or a disk. When you create a clipping file, the computer names it with the first 18 characters of the clipping's contents, followed by the word "clipping." The file's icon has a jagged edge.

    Sample clipping

    To create a clipping file:
Drag an item or selection from a document to the desktop, a folder, or a disk.

To see the contents of a clipping file:
    Double-click the file's icon.

Tip: You can copy the contents of a clipping to a document by dragging the clipping file icon to an application or document icon, or to the open document.

If you can't create a clipping file or drag a clipping file to a document:
The application program you are using does not support the clipping feature.
