Tips for speaking commands

Don't shout or overenunciate. Speak in a calm and relaxed voice. The computer adapts to your voice level after the first three or four times you give a command.
Click the play button to hear an example.
Speak from the position you'd normally be in if you were typing at the computer. If the computer doesn't recognize your command after two or three tries, try saying it again a little more slowly.
You can say the word "open" before any command.
For example, if the command is "AppleWorks," you can also say "Open AppleWorks."
You can leave out the words "alias" and "folder" at the end of commands.
You can leave out numbers. The computer doesn't recognize numerals in filenames.
For example, if you have a file named "HyperCard 1.5" and "HyperCard 3.5," the computer only recognizes the "HyperCard" portion of the command.
You can use the words "this" and "these" interchangeably.
If you frequently use commands that allow you to work with applications (for example, "switch to <appname>"), make sure the Apple Menu Options control panel is set to remember a large number of recent applications (such as 20). Speakable Items gets the names of applications from the Apple menu and the Favorites folder.

To learn the function of an AppleScript file that came with your speech recognition software, open the Help menu and choose Show Balloons, then point at the file's icon.
