Adjusting the mouse, trackball, or trackpad

Adjusting the mouse or trackball

To adjust settings for your mouse or trackball, use the Mouse control panel.

Open the Mouse control panel for me.

To adjust how fast the pointer moves:
Select a speed under Mouse Tracking.

To set how fast you need to click for the computer to recognize two clicks as a double click:
Select a speed under Double-Click Speed.

Tip: If you are using a graphics tablet, make sure Mouse Tracking is set to Very Slow.

Adjusting the trackpad

To adjust tracking and double-click speed, use the Trackpad control panel.

Open the Trackpad control panel for me.

To make the pointer move at the same speed as your finger:
Select "1 to 1" under Tracking Speed.

To simulate a click by tapping directly on the trackpad:
Click Clicking under "Use Trackpad for."

To drag using only the trackpad:
Click Dragging under "Use Trackpad for."

Tip: After you select the dragging option, you can also select Drag Lock. With the Drag Lock option turned on, you can lift your finger off the trackpad as you drag, then put it down and move it to continue. To release the drag, you tap once. This option makes it easier for you to drag an item across the screen (or drag through a menu) without running out of room on the trackpad.

If your pointer moves erratically around the screen when you use the trackpad:
Make sure you are touching the trackpad with only one finger, and that your finger is not wet.
