Typing accents and special characters

To create accent marks and other special characters, use Key Caps (located in the Apple menu) to find the character you're looking for, then use the keys indicated to type the character in your document.

    Open Key Caps for me.

To see the characters available in an installed font:
Open the Fonts menu and choose the font.
Press the Shift key, the Option key, or the Shift and Option keys together to see additional characters.
Tip: If more than one character is available for a single key combination, the additional characters appear in a yellow box below the key when you point to the key.

To type a letter with an accent mark:
First press the keys used for the mark, then release those keys and type the letter you want to have the mark.

Tip: To increase the size of the Key Caps keyboard, click the zoom box (in the upper-right corner of the Key Caps window).
