Using a television as a monitor

To use a television as a monitor, you must have a computer or graphics card with video output ports. See the computer or graphics card manual for more information.

Note: Some computers with built-in displays have an RGB out port. To connect a television to these computers, connect a scan rate converter to the RGB out port on the computer, then connect the converter to a television. For more information, see the documentation that came with the scan rate converter.

To use a television as a monitor:
1 With the computer shut down and turned off, connect a video cable from the video output port on your computer or graphics card to the video input port on the television.
    2 Turn on the television.
You may need to adjust the television's settings so that it displays video from the port the computer is connected to. See the television manual for details.
    3 Turn on the computer.
4 Adjust the resolution and video settings in the Monitors control panel.
Open the Monitors control panel for me.

If your monitor screen is black:
Your computer may not have enough video memory to display an image on the television and the computer monitor at the same time. Try installing more video memory in the computer.

If the television screen is black:
Use the Monitors control panel to select a lower resolution setting.

    If the image flickers:
Some combinations of colors or patterns cause the image on the television screen to flicker. If you have a Reduce Flicker option in the Monitors control panel, turn it on.

If the colors don't look right:
Try adjusting the television's color settings. The television may not be able to display some colors that you can see on your monitor.

If you can't change the television's resolution:
You can't switch a television to a higher resolution setting. Set your monitor to the lowest possible resolution so that the monitor and television can both display the same image.
