Using QuickTime on the Internet

Tens of thousands of sites on the World Wide Web feature QuickTime movies, sound, or graphics. Your Web browser can play QuickTime movies if you have the QuickTime extensions installed in the System Folder on your computer, and the QuickTime Plug-In in the plug-ins folder of your Web browser.

Setting your QuickTime connection speed

When you are viewing or listening to QuickTime movies using your Web browser, QuickTime can automatically play the movies at the highest quality setting possible for your computer and your Internet connection. To do this, QuickTime must know the speed of your Internet connection.

To set your QuickTime connection speed, choose Connection Speed from the pop-up menu in the QuickTime Settings control panel and choose an applicable speed from the selection.

Open the QuickTime Settings control panel for me.

Using QuickTime to open files in other formats

Media files that you download or receive over the Internet may be in formats your computer can't recognize and open automatically. You may be able to use QuickTime to open these files. QuickTime works with more than 50 different formats, such as WAV, AIFF, AVI, and BMP files.

If you have a graphics, sound, or video file that you can't open, drag it to the QuickTime Player or PictureViewer application icon.

Tip: To have files translated automatically, enable the QuickTime Exchange option in the QuickTime Settings control panel.
