Using ColorSync with your applications

To get the best possible color reproduction, you need to use ColorSync throughout the image capture, editing, and printing process. Make sure you always do the following:
Before you use a color input or capture device, such as a scanner or digital camera, make sure you have a profile for the device and that it's loaded in the ColorSync Profiles folder in the System Folder.
If you don't have a profile, look for one on the manufacturer's website or software installation program. You can also create your own using tools available from a number for companies. Visit www.apple.com/colorsync to see a partial list.
Open the application you use for capturing content and enable capture with color management. This should give you a list of ColorSync Profiles to choose from. Select the one for your device. You should Embed the capture device's profile in the image if you are passing the image on to output. If you are planning to do further image editing, use the software or ColorSync's AppleScripts to Match from the scanner to your editing or viewing profile. This will transform the color of the document taking into account the way your scanner captured the data.
Open the application you use for image editing and enable color management. You may have a number of choices to choose from here. The best course of action is to compare the selections you make in the program to those that you setup in the ColorSync control panel and consult the developer for additional information about their settings.
If you have more than one color management system on your computer, make sure only ColorSync is turned on.

Note: The settings in the ColorSync control panel may affect how your applications use ColorSync. These settings are for use primarily by graphic arts professionals; most users won't need to change them.
