Saving a Web page

Save a word-processing document that you want to use as a Web page in two formats: as HTML for the Web and as an AppleWorks document for later revision.

IMPORTANT: You must save an AppleWorks version of your page to make changes in the page later. If you revise and resave an HTML page, its content will not appear correctly in a browser.

Saving a page in two formats

To save an AppleWorks document and an HTML Web page:
1 Save the document as you would any AppleWorks document.
Tip: If you're uploading your file to a Web server, don't use spaces in the filename.
2 Choose Save As from the File menu.
3 Choose HTML from the File Format pop-up menu and type a name for the document, adding ".htm" to the end of the filename.
Depending on the version of the Mac OS you're using, the controls in the dialog box may be labeled differently. For more information about controls in the dialog box, choose Show Balloons from the Help menu.

Note: When you save a document as HTML, AppleWorks saves graphics in the document as separate files and places them in the same folder as the HTML file. If you move the document, move the graphic files with it.

Specifying the format for saved graphics

You can choose two file formats for graphics saved with an HTML document: PNG or JPEG. In general, PNG is preferred for illustrations and JPEG is preferred for photos.

To specify the format for saved graphics:
1 Choose Preferences from the Edit menu, then choose HTML Import/Export from the submenu.
2 Choose PNG or JPEG from the Image Export Format pop-up menu.
The new format doesn't affect graphics you've saved previously.

To preview the page, open it in your browser.
