Playing movies or sounds
A sound file in an AppleWorks document is indicated by a control badge:
A movie file in a document looks like a picture with a control badge in the lower-left corner. The picture is the first frame of the movie. (If the first frame is white, the picture won't show up on a white background.)
When you click the control badge, you see the play control bar:

A |
Volume control |
B |
Play/stop button (changes dynamically) |
C |
Forward/reverse slider |
D |
Reverse step button |
E |
Forward step button |
|
The play control bar isn't available for movies or sounds in multimedia fields in a database, movies or sounds that are inline in a word-processing document, or movies or sounds in a painting document.
If you cannot play a movie or sound, or cannot see the play control bar:
|
Make sure the volume is turned up both in the play control bar and in the Monitors & Sound control panel. |
|
Make sure that the movie isn't inline. (It's inline if, when you select it, there is only one selection handle in the lower-right corner.) If it is inline, make it a "floating" object instead: |
|
1 |
If the Tools window is not open, choose Show Tools from the Window menu. |
2 |
Click to select the movie or sound. |
3 |
Press the Delete key. |
4 |
Click the arrow in the Tools window to eliminate the insertion point. |
5 |
Insert the movie or sound. |
6 |
Try playing the movie or sound again. |
|
|
Make sure the movie or sound file is in the same folder as the AppleWorks document that includes it. |
|
If the movie or sound is in a database document, you must be in Layout mode to view the movie. Choose Layout from the Layout menu. |
|
Is the movie or sound in a painting? You can't play movies or sounds in a painting frame or document. |
|
Are you trying to play the movie in a Windows version of AppleWorks or ClarisWorks? If the movie was originally added to a Macintosh version of an AppleWorks document, it needs to be self-contained. Refer to QuickTime Help to find out how to prepare the movie for viewing on Windows. |
