You can create six types of documents with AppleWorks: word processing, drawing, painting, spreadsheet, database, and presentation.
One of the most powerful features of AppleWorks is that you can easily integrate different types of information in a single document by using frames. For example, in a drawing document, add text frames to create a newsletter. Or, in a word-processing document, add a spreadsheet frame to calculate numbers or a table frame to present columnar text.
Word processing:
Use for documents that are mostly text, such as letters, memos, reports, stories, and outlines. You can add images, create multiple columns on a page, set up headers and footers, and add footnotes.
Spreadsheet:
Use for documents that contain numerical data that you want to analyze or calculate, such as home budgets, student grade reports, and mortgage amortization tables. You can also turn the numbers into a chart (graph) to aid comprehension.
Database:
Use for managing and organizing collections of text and graphical data, such as address lists, student or customer records, home inventories, and research notes. You can search and sort a database in complex ways, create different layouts for different views of the data, and generate reports on the data.
Drawing:
The most versatile document type. Use for anything from simple line drawings to complex page layouts such as a newsletter, school seating chart, or floor plan. You can add text, spreadsheet, and paint frames, and insert clip art.
Painting:
Use for working with scanned photographs or images from the Web, or for creating illustrations with special color or image effects.
Presentation:
Use for creating a sequence of images, or slides, that accompany a talk about your last vacation or a classroom report. You can show a presentation document as a slide show directly from your computer, or print it on paper or transparencies.
Tip: Before you start a complicated project, check out the AppleWorks Assistants and templates to see if they can give you a head start.
