As you use your computer, you'll find you do some tasks over and over. AppleScript lets you automate some of these tasks.

For example, perhaps you like to add the date to the names of files or you frequently change a preference in the Finder. By using an AppleScript script, you can have the computer do these tasks for you quickly and easily.

Your computer comes with several "scriptable" programs (programs that you can control using a script). Other programs you use may also be scriptable.

A script can control more than one program, so you can automate tasks that involve several different programs.

Scripts can also control programs over the network, so you can automate tasks on more than one computer.
