DNA contains genetic information in the form of genes that is necessary for the synthesis of proteins.  Before proteins can be synthesized however, this genetic information must be converted to a useful form known as RNA.  The general flow of information from DNA to RNA is known as transcription.  While the most notable transcription process synthesizes RNA required to make proteins, messenger RNA, other forms of RNA are formed as well.  Transfer RNA and ribosomal RNA are also forms of RNA that are synthesized through the transcription process.   Transcription involves the use of numerous enzymes that facilitate the conversion of the DNA base pairs to a strand of RNA, a very complex process essential to all of life.
