Setting view options for page layout

Using the View palette, you can set options that control the display of background or low resolution images, standard Web fonts, and certain screen elements on your page (such as the lines in layout grids, table borders, floating box markers, and line break symbols). You can also choose a profile for a specific Web browser (such as imode for displaying your pages on wireless devices), and appropriate adjustments are made to the page layout as it would appear in that browser (such as in a very small window for imode browsers). The options that you select are only applied to the open page.

To set view options for the page in the View palette:

  1. Select the Layout tab in the document window.
  2. In the View palette, do any of the following:
    • Choose an option from the Profile pop-up menu to view a simulated preview of your page in a Web browser for Windows or Mac OS.
    • Select Allow Overlapping Paragraphs to preview how elements with negative margin values grow into adjacent elements. This option only affects elements on your page that have CSS formatting applied to them. Selecting this option enables GoLive to provide the most accurate preview of CSS styles.
    • Choose Show All Items, Default Set, or a custom set from the Visibility menu to display all or some items that don't show in the browser window. The option or set that you choose determines which items are displayed or hidden in GoLive when you choose View > Hide Invisible Items or View > Show Invisible Items. (See Creating custom sets of hidden screen elements.)
    • Deselect Images to hide images (but show their borders, placeholder icons, or alternative text) in the Layout Editor. Select Low Source to display low-resolution images and Background to display background images. (See Generating low source images and see Applying images or color to the page background.)
    • Choose All, Ignore Web Fonts, or Only Times from the Fonts menu. The Web Fonts option is useful because it draws your attention to any text that is formatted using nonstandard Web fonts, or fonts that your viewers may not have on their computers. If desired, you can then reformat the text using standard Web fonts.
    • Choose Normal, Active, or Visited from the Links menu to preview the colors that have been chosen for each link state. (See Setting the default color for text or links in a page.)
