Literature/Researching Resources
  1. Medical Biochemistry. Here is a great site covering all basic aspects of biochemistry and metabolism.
  2. The Protein Data Bank. Search here to find out if there is a known structure for a given drug target protein.
  3. OMIM (Online Mendelian Inheritance In Man). The ultimate genetic disorder resource. EVERY known genetic-linked  disease is here.
  4. KEGG(Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes)-Great  central resource for metabolic pathways, enzyme info, regulatory pathways, genomic, proteomics resources. It's all here!
  5. How aspirin works. Here is a structural resource requiring CHIME. This is a classic system for understanding SAR(Structure Activity Relationships).
  6. Biochemistry Animations. Go to the contents page and then "studying protein structures" and you will be rewarded with CHIME aminmations of various medically important protein targets including G-proteins and the HIV protease.
  7. PubMed-This is a very good Medline journal search tool which also provides abstracts.
  8. SCI-Science Citation Index- very good-a little harder to figure out than PubMed but has some more obscure journals, but just from 1987-2000.
  9. A Medical Terminology Dictionary. You'll need this if you ever hope to understand whether you should be insulted if accused of "intermittent claudication"!
  10. Molecular Biochemistry/Metabolism This is a GREAT supplementary/study web site. See the excellent animations and protein structures.
