Chem 412: Biochemistry/Molecular Biology Seminar Course Outline Chem 412 is a seminar course that is required as a capstone experience for students majoring in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology. Each student registered for the course is required to give one 20-minute presentation to the class. They are also required to attend all scheduled meetings, to listen, to participate in answer-and-question sessions, and to assist in evaluating the presentations given by others. There will also be time spent at the beginning of the semester on developing skills for doing literature searches and giving presentations to groups.
The goals of this course include:
The presentation:
The subject of the presentation: The connecting theme for this year’s seminar series will be “In the News”. The subjects of the seminar presentations will draw from the areas of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The key to selecting a topic will be that it was found noteworthy enough to be commented on during the past year in either Science or Nature. In the coming weeks, before the presentations are given, we will be working on methods for accumulating a bibliography and for giving a presentation using PowerPoint. |
