Chem 412: Biochemistry/Molecular Biology Seminar Course Outline and Schedule Chem 412 is a seminar course that is required as a capstone experience for students majoring in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology. Each student registered for the course is required to give one 20 minute presentation to the class. They are also required to attend all scheduled meetings, to listen, to participate in answer-and-question sesstion, and to aid in evaluating the presentations given by others. There will also be a couple of presentations given by outside speakers, along with a series of presentations given by the instructor at the beginning of the semester on obtaining and presenting information.
The purpose of this course:
The presentation:
The subject of the presentation: The subjects of the seminar presentation will draw from the area of The Molecular Basis for Diseases. Over past couple of years we have learned a great deal about the molecular defects and processes that lead to various disease states. This level of understanding has greatly expanded our understanding of diseases and suggests many potential avenues of treatment, including gene therapy. With the recent completion of the Human Genome Project, the number of diseases that are understood at the molecular level is expect increase exponentially in the coming decades. Examples of diseases that currently have some level of understanding at the molecular level include:
