Using a dialup modem to connect to a remote network or server

    You can use a dialup modem to connect to a remote network or server over a standard telephone line. Once you're connected, you have access to shared disks and files on the server and its network. Use your modem to dial your ISP or connect to your office network from home or when traveling.

Preparing to connect

Establishing a connection

    To connect to a remote server:
    1 Click the Remote Access portion of the Control Strip.
    2 Choose the Remote Access configuration you want to use.
    3 Click the Remote Access portion of the Control Strip again.
    4 Choose Connect from the pop-up menu.

    Tip: You can use the Remote Access Status application in the Apple menu to connect, disconnect, and monitor a connection.

    If you use a terminal window to log in to a PPP server:
    You can use a connect script to avoid typing login commands and user information.
