Your computer has an Ethernet port or a LocalTalk-compatible printer or modem port that you can use to connect it directly to a network. (Many Macintosh computers have both LocalTalk and Ethernet ports.)
IMPORTANT: Before you use a cable to connect your computer to a network, ask your network administrator where you should connect, what type of cable to use, and what network software settings you need.
To connect to a local network:
1 |
Check your computer's network identity in the File Sharing control panel to make sure it has a name. |
2 |
Connect your computer to the network using the appropriate network cable. |
|
To join an Ethernet network, connect an Ethernet cable to your computer's Ethernet port. |
|
To join a LocalTalk network, connect a LocalTalk cable and adapter to your computer's printer or modem port. |
|
If your computer supports infrared communication, you can set up an infrared connection. |
3 |
Set up your network software configurations using the appropriate control panels. |
|
For AppleTalk networking, check the AppleTalk control panel and, if necessary, adjust your AppleTalk settings. |
|
For TCP/IP networking, check the TCP/IP control panel and, if necessary, adjust your TCP/IP settings. |
